Peter Skapetis set to trial with Brisbane Roar

Former Australia youth international Peter Skapetis is to trial with Brisbane Roar as he seeks to reignite a career stymied by back-to-back anterior cruciate ligament injuries.

After six seasons in England, which included spells with Queens Park Rangers and Stoke City, the 22-year-old former South Melbourne junior is back on home soil and out to win a Roar deal for the 2017-2018 A-League season.

Skapetis looked to be on an upward trajectory when Mark Hughes signed him for the Potters in 2014.

But a ruptured ACL proved a significant setback, and his hopes of a breakthrough at the Britannia Stadium were cruelly crushed when lightning struck twice as he returned to action after the first rupture.

Skapetis went on to feature for Derby County's under-23's and was close to a deal at Championship club Cardiff City recently, but financial fair play rules intervened to deter Neil Warnock from signing him.

Renowned for his pace and power, Skapetis also had a stint with non-league Dover Athletic before opting to return home.

Having left for England at 16, Skapetis will now bid to force an A-League breakthrough, with John Aloisi having the first option for one of Australia's unluckiest youngsters.

Avram Papadopoulos Michael Theo sign new contracts

Brisbane Roar are pleased to announce that former Greek International defender Avram Papadopoulos and Championship winning goalkeeper Michael Theo will both remain with the Roar in 2017/18.

Brisbane?s preparations for the upcoming campaign are in full swing ahead of the commencement of pre-season training which will begin in early July.
Melbourne-born key defender Avram Papadopoulos will be in Orange for the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 season after the imposing centre-back slotted straight into the Roar backline following his late-season arrival.

Papadopoulos (below) started seven games after making his Roar debut in Round 22, and will continue to shore up the middle of the Brisbane?s defence along with fellow centre-backs Jade North, Luke DeVere and Daniel Bowles.

Head Coach John Aloisi said it was fantastic news to lock in the key backline pillar.

?Avram is a fantastic footballer who from day one has embraced our culture and style of play,? Aloisi said.

?There is no doubt he will bolster our already strong defensive line. ?He is a leader who will give our side greater flexibility at the back for the 2017/18 season.

? Five-time Hyundai A-League Champion Michael Theo is another key player to commit to the Club. Theo (below) is the Hyundai A-League?s most successful keeper, having never lost a Grand Final, and has been between the posts for all three of Brisbane?s Championship victories.

Tommy Oar set to sign for APOEL

Tommy Oar on his way to Greece (?) for ?350,000? Translation from a Greek site via 'The Roar Review':

"It opened the way for the acquisition of Tommy Oar as he fled from the Middle the highest "obstacle", which to many seemed hitherto as insurmountable! The administration of APOEL, well, found with the Brisbane Roar, a group that has the permission of journeyman footballer.

The contract with the Oar, as we reveal, there is 350,000 euro clause for release. The makers of galazokitrinwn after several (and coordinated) actions, put that package of proposals in the Club of Brisbane that was ultimately accepted, so all that remains is to strike the right balance with the Oar, which is considered a matter of time that will be achieved.

Of course this is a highly welcome development, since, ultimately, if possible the acquisition of the 25 year old Australian practicing extreme offensive will be a major addition to the mesoepithetiki line. Has a great football age and Mario Bain who recommended its acquisition knows very well what may give in total"

Roar have signed Fahid Ben Khalfallah

Friday, 26 May 2017

Brisbane Roar Football Club are excited to announce the signing of former Tunisian international forward Fahid Ben Khalfallah for the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 season.

The versatile Championship winning playmaker joins Brisbane after three seasons at Melbourne Victory, where he made 76 appearances, scoring 12 goals and creating 15 assists.

Head Coach John Aloisi believes the addition of the experienced front man known as ?FBK? will bring a unique blend of class and attacking intent to the Roar side.

?Fahid?s experience and versatility will strengthen our already talented squad,? Aloisi said.

?His ability to play out wide or in the middle of our attack gives us greater unpredictability and creativity that will excite our fans.

?Most importantly though, we believe he will suit our style of play.?

The French-born-and-raised winger came to Australia after a distinguished career in France, including 76 appearances over four seasons for Ligue 1 giants Girondins Bordeaux, a team he joined for a fee of 5 million euros in 2010.

Brisbane?s new recruit said the opportunity to continue to play in the Hyundai A-League with one of the most successful team?s was a challenge he would relish.

?I?m very happy to sign with Brisbane. It was an easy decision to come to a Club that has won many Championships and Grand Finals,?
