There's a surprise.

Brisbane Roar is excited to announce the signing of triple Championship-winning defender Ivan Franjic for the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 season.

The Australian international was an integral member of Brisbane's squad between 2009 and 2014, winning three Hyundai A-League Championships and two Premierships.

Head Coach John Aloisi says the versatile fullback, known for both his defensive capabilities as well as a keen eye for goal, is a tremendous addition to his squad.

?We are thrilled to welcome Ivan back to Brisbane Roar Football Club,? Aloisi said.

?In the past he played a key role in bringing success to our Club and we believe he will be fantastic for our talented squad.

?We are signing an experienced versatile footballer, who has played at the highest level for both club and country and will help lead the group.?

Between 2009 and 2014, Franjic made 115 appearances for Brisbane Roar and earned his international debut during that time.

He has since gone on to represent Australia 20 times, featuring at both the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2015 AFC Asian Cup and is excited to once again be wearing the Brisbane orange.

?I have a lot of special memories in Brisbane and to come back and have these fans support me again is special,? Franjic said.

?My Dad is a huge Brisbane Roar supporter so he was very happy to hear the news. I?m a player that want

SOCCEROOS assistant coach Josep Gombau has been unveiled as Western Sydney Wanderers? new boss on Wednesday morning.

The former Adelaide United boss has been linked heavily with the post, and after Ante Milicic pulled out, became a firm favourite.

His interest in the post was endorsed by Ange Postecoglou during the Socceroos? Syria series.

Gombau, an advocate for passing and possession football, would also need no introduction to the A-League, nor the club?s Spanish contingent, a clear reason for his appointment following Tony Popovic?s shock departure to Turkey.

Luke DeVere ruled out for at least 10 weeks with knee injury

BRISBANE Roar have suffered another injury setback, with a knee problem to sideline key defender Luke DeVere for at least 10 weeks.

DeVere was forced off in the first half of the Roar?s 3-3 weekend draw with Wellington after being tackled by Phoenix attacker Roy Krishna.

He has been diagnosed with a grade two plus medial ligament strain.

DeVere is the second defender the Roar have lost in the space two matches after left back Corey Brown tore his hamstring in the previous week?s 2-1 loss to Newcastle.

Brown is set to return before DeVere, whose bad luck with injuries continues.

?He?s disappointed because he?s had such a bad stretch of injuries,? Roar coach John Aloisi said.

?It?s very unfortunate for him.?

It?s expected DeVere, who tore his calf last season, won?t be back until Brisbane?s January 5 clash against Western Sydney Wanderers at the earliest.

With another of the Roar?s central defenders, Daniel Bowles, not due back from his knee reconstruction also until January, Aloisi hasn?t ruled out signing an injury-replacement player as cover for DeVere.

?It?s something that we?ll be discussing. We?re considering our options.? the Roar coach said.

Experienced duo Jade North and Avraam Papadopoulos are set to be the last-placed Roar?s central defensive pairing against Central Coast Mariners on Sunday at Suncorp Stadium.
