Don't worry about Lean on Me... how about Bohemian Rhapsody?

Bohemian Rhapsody is clearly the better of the two...

Could you imagine if in 10-20 years the entire north end sang that in perfect concert?

Personally I think Lean on Me is shit as a club song. Barking out "LEAN ON ME!" goes against the song.

It needs to be something a bit more intense (but not headbanging either), which can be sung with passion.

I hate to borrow something from America, but this college football team knows their shit (watch some of their other videos).

Build me up Buttercup (which I think would be great, because of the call backs): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnYCdKDI5hk

Their song is "Stand By Me" not "Lean on Me" but I do agree they are clones of each other.
I actually think their song sounds pretty good. Its not about how its sounds anyway ...its how it makes you feel when singing it.
I envy them having a  song. While all you precious little pusses on here want your own little song, they just went ahead and started playing one .....and of course none of you like it...(a) its the Tards song and.... (b) you all want you own favourite ,latest and probably unknown to most, song.
Someone needs to just start playing one before games until it grows on people . If people don't like it .....f**k em... they'll get used to it.
The only way we'll ever get a song is by decree ,consensus will never happen.
A panel of sensible people (must be a few in the Den) need to come up with a list of 20 possible songs. The forum members could vote for their top three.
Then the selection panel plays those top three at games and the most popular wins .
Someone needs to do something as it will never happen organically.
We aren't in 1960's England standing on a freezing cold terrace and singing songs to forget the cold.

BTW ...here is my vote for club song ...totally inappropriate (like many suggested on here) but I would love to hear a few thousand rocking to this before a game  . Imagine the boys walking out to those first guitar riffs !

Well that was disappointing ...was meant to be a live version of Hells Bells by AC/DC.

To be fair, I never said I disliked the song, or their rendition of it; neither did I scorn them for having come up with a team song.

I'm just passing on us adopting it - the whole league already shares each other's chants and songs, but our main "club song" needs to be unique to us. I still think it's hilarious when people thought Katy Perry's "Roar" might be an option :P

...plus Lean on Me is a completely different song to Stand By Me .

Lean on Me wouldn't be my pick but if it was the one that got sung I would probably join in...and grow to love it as I associate it more and more with the Roar ...and yes I think a good song would even get sung in the "prawn sarnie" seats.

Whatever songs are tried need to be simple ,slow and moderately well known.

"Lean On Me" would be a great choice for a club song.

Having sung it myself, the lyrics are fairly straight forward. The chorus especially is simple and repetitive, so easy to learn.

It's the sort of song that would echo around the stadium.

The song is cross-generational, ie regardless of age most will have heard it at some point in time, so pretty much everyone in the crowd should be able to pick it up.

The underlying message of suggesting the team and club lean on it's supporters in times of need (like now) is also appropriate.

I'm 100% behind getting Lean On Me playing pre-game.. It has historical meaning and the biggest thing is that it's a song that everyone around the stadium can really get into, not just the Deninites..

Gotta look at the big picture, only a couple of chants can usually get buy in from all around the stadium but no song ever has.

... to which we come full-circle to the terrible sound design at Suncorp.... unless you're in the upper tiers (which no-one is) or on the concourses (which get muffled by foot traffic).

Playing the song isn't enough. They need to set up audio so that the lower bowl (i.e. EVERYONE on a Roar matchday) can hear the f*cker loudly AND clearly.

{a poxy song for a poxy team from poxy engerland} is arguably the most recognized team song on the planet yet it is also corny .......but it manages to inspire all the sad sacks who follow Liverpool. I love My Happiness as a song but not sure how good it would be as a football team song though.

And here, in a nutshell is why there has never been any agreement on this forum for any team song.

People are looking for a song that they like.

News flash - not everyone likes the same thing, and liking a song doesn't mean everyone can easily sing along.

There are any number of clips regularly posted on here of oversees fans singing a song. They are held up as examples of what we should do, because they sound awesome.

They rarely sound awesome because it is a song everyone likes. The reason they sound awesome is because you have thousands of people all singing the same thing.

To get thousands to singing the same thing, you have to have a song that thousands know well, and that is easy to sing along to.

How many times do we see the comment "the prawn sarnie section only chants Brisbane clap clap clap"? Well they chant that because it is easy to pick up and chant with.

I sing "Lean On Me" in a choir. In my six years with them, I've learnt close to 100 songs. It is probably one of only two songs that we can get any audience to sing along to.

It will take time, but if you can get fans outside the den to at least sing the chorus, they will eventually pick up the rest of the song as well, even if you have to get a karaoke version up on the screens.

Stop looking for a song that everyone is going to like. It doesn't exist.

Look for a song the everyone can sing along to.

Lean On Me is one of those.

I've been banging on about that version of Truly Madly Deeply for about 4 seasons now.
I remember we had a cracking rendition of it at the stadium bar once, and I never heard it again :(

"I want to stand with you on a mountain" has been in my head all morning so I guess I like it too.
Though, I am usually brain dead first thing in the morning.

In a sense, it could be taken as extending to the "mountains" of the Sunshine Coast and Western Brisbane (Mount Coot-tha, Toowoomba etc)

Mt Gravatt Mofo!

Mount Mee - my favourite place

If we do Truly Madly Deeply we somehow have to rework this song for the Den as well.  The French Puma Hard Chorus is awesome!

Seems to have pretty good support.

If it's a Den song, go for it. If you're calling it a club song, you'd better find out what the other 10,000 members think first. I personally don't like it. To me it's too lovey-dovey to be a football supporter song.

You think we're going to get consensus from 10k people on what the club song should be?  It's hard enough getting the small subset of Roar supporters on this forum to even get close to agreeing on a song.  This one seems to have less resistance than others though.

There are only two ways we will end up with a club song:
1. The club chooses something cringworthy and forces it on us
2. It originates in the Den and slowly gets wider support

I know which one I'd prefer.

Oh god. Are we really still talking about this?

Start at L.A. Prematch for a few weeks and get it started there. Alternatively, jump the gun and get it running at the Youth Game this Sunday with the Den Workshop prematch.

As opposed to a very small subset, on this forum, selecting a song they like, and going with it regardless of the wishes of the wider membership? Seems like the same thing to me...and I happen to think this song is cringeworthy.

But the selection is organic, which means the wider audience, by not participating, are participating in the decision. Saying it is cringeworthy is one thing, but then not actually stating your preference is, ... nothing.
It doesn't matter what song is chosen, someone is not going to like it.
I'm a long time supporter of this song, along with a few others, so I'll be adding my voice if it gets started at the LA.

Hi guys.  Long time lurker (2 years) first post.

How about a local high energy positive song with rap like lyrics and a simple chorus.  I think this is just the sort of vibe we need right now.  For you consideration .........

happiness is a kong foo sing
with good fortune that it brings
so quit your moping
and crack one open
smiles abound
the cookie has spoken

ah the kong foo sing
yeah the kong foo sing
ah the kong foo sing
it's the king

the kong foo sing is a holy scripture
i heard the word i got the picture
ancient wisdom in a cruncy treat
the place where the faith and the flavour meet

tasty biscuit holds a ticket
never did i ever feel so uplifted
i once was nothing now i rock the stack
when i was young i got the foo sing contract

ah the kong foo sing
yeah the kong foo sing
ah the kong foo sing
it's the king

the kong foo sing can you say no?
do you see how to be getting with the flow?
no one to be shown within the wrapping of the dough
crack 'em by the stack and then you won't be feeling low

ah the kong foo sing
yeah the kong foo sing
ah the kong foo sing
it's the king

very relevant to todays Brisbane Roar.

I would prefer their earlier classic:

I Kicked A Lot Of Goals To Get Where I Am.

i scored a lot of goals to get where i am
i only want to be the best that i can
my foot is stained i can't complain
i keep kicking it again and again

whoa-oh whoa whoa yeah-eah-eah-eah
whoa whoa yeah-eah-eah-eah
whoa-oh whoa whoa yeah-eah-eah-eah
whoa yeah-eah-eah

take a look at me
tell me what do you see?
i've got all i want
i'm on top of the heap
now they look up to me
i kicked more goals
you can get what you need
just get down on your knees

you've kicked a lot of goals to get where you are
your smile is stretching but you're gonna go far
your life is pain you can't complain
you keep on kicking it again and again

i know i know-whoa-oh-oh-oh
i kicked  a lot of goals to get where i am
i know i know-whoa-oh-oh-oh
i only wanna be the best that i can

i know i know-whoa-oh-oh-oh
i kicked a lot of goals to get where i am
i know i know-whoa-oh-oh-oh
i only wanna be the best that i can

i know i know-whoa-oh-oh-oh (x6)

Now would be the perfect time to bring back 'Lean On Me'

Last time we were in the doldrums we sang this with a bit of gusto, 5/6 seasons back or so.

Players, staff and supporters have all been through a shit time recently so perhaps dusting this off would be good.

If not there's always this classic.

Here's the lyrics:

Look around, round, look around round, look around
Look around, round, look around round, looka looka

You're only one fad away from being retro
You're only one drug away from liking techno
You're only one glasses of pair from dyslexia
You're only one Cleo mag from anorexia

You're only five yards from a fuckwit

Look around, round, look around round, look around
Look around, round, look around round, looka looka

You're only one download from this song's copyright
You're only one Tim Tam away from cellulite
You're only one phone call from captaining the Aussie side
You're only one lifestyle show from suicide
You're only one station from John Laws' shit
You're only one labotomy from believing it

You're only five yards from a fuckwit

Look around, round, look around round, look around
Look around, round, look around round, looka looka

You're only one tabloid press from a lynch mob
You're only one acting role from a real job
You're only one strip of flesh from your bones
You're only one species away from Alan Jones1

You're only one small speck in space
You're only one life, soon erased
Be there none left on Earth but you
One thing will still remain true

You're only five yards from a fuckwit

Look around, round, look around round, look around
Look around, round, look around round, looka looka

For when Thwaite comes to town:

You're a yob or you're a wanker -
 Take your fucking choice
So who is your favourite genius
 James Hird or James Joyce?
You ever seen a live performance?
 Join the wanker club
You thought I meant table top dancing?
 You're a yobbo, bub

What are ya? Yob or wanker?

Wankers once used mobile phones
 But now that's sorta changing
And yobs once lived in cottage homes -
 Ain't social change amazing?
If a yob and wanker want a girl
The wanker guy will get her -
Both of them are equally ugly
But the wanker hides it better

What are ya? Yob or wanker?

A wanker fights inequality
 And for people's rights;
 A wanker fights class prejudice
 A yobbo just fights
Yob or wanker - wanker or yob
Pass me the brush to tar ya:
 Make your choice then live your life;
Come on pal, what are ya?

Just throwing it out there as my first post after years of hiding in the shadows... Needs to be loud, with lots of bass. I find the lyrics to be somewhat appropriate given our history and (hopefully) the player's and fan's desire to fight through the off-field sh*t to become again what we once were. It's a hell of a track to get fired up to!

Disturbed - "Immortalized"

This is wartime, this is our time
We won't be denied
Feed the fire that is raging inside
This is go time, this is showtime
We will fight ?til their wills are broken
This is game time, an insane time
Let the madness fly
Show them strength that just can?t be defied
Find the power to devour
Let the beast inside now be woken

In this world only the strong will survive
Hear the roar and you will know you?re alive
Feel the energy build in your soul ?cause it?s time

Oh, in the calm before the storm
Another legend will be born
Another battle will be won
We will rise
Oh, so heed the call of confrontation
Today we feed on domination
Secure a legacy that will never die
Be immortalized

Raw emotion, pure devotion
They will testify
And our memory will endure for all time
Never hiding, no dividing
Let them witness us move as one now
Show no mercy, let the world see
We're invincible
Show them nothing is beyond our control
Take it higher, our desire
Will determine what we?ve become now

Are you ready for the test of your life?
See the fear bleeding right through their eyes
Feel the energy build in your soul ?cause it?s time

Oh, in the calm before the storm
Another legend will be born
Another battle will be won
We will rise
Oh, so heed the call of confrontation
Today we feed on domination
Secure a legacy that will never die
Be immortalized

Feel it, take no prisoners now
Take it, there it is standing in front of us
Hear it, our deliverance now
Own it, give them all an image of us that will last for all time

Oh, in the calm before the storm
Another legend will be born
Another battle will be won
We will rise
Oh, so heed the call of confrontation
Today we feed on domination
Secure a legacy that will never die
Be immortalized

Great choice Roary....I just youtubed it. Would be fantastic sung by 5 or 6 thousand fans . Also a Brisbane band . Very apt. The more I watch it, the more I get goose bumps thinking of the anthem it could be for us.
It would need to be played before games to let the crowd get used to it and know it. (and for all those "fake" Liverpool fans ...yes {a poxy song for a poxy team from poxy engerland} is actually played over the loudspeakers at Anfield... even now ! )

Good luck if you want to get the people of the den to sing that , or anything for that matter , they still sing the songs from season 1 , not saying they dont try but it never changes . your song may be

known to you but, youve only got 12 or 13 games to get people to join in , and lets face it were not the sharpest of folks in the den are we .

best thing to do is to sing and shout what ever makes you happy ,,,, dont worry if the bloke with the plastic mega-phone wont join in who gives a shit . enjoy yourself , ive been doing that since season 1

to be fair.... I don't give a rats if the Den sing or not. A team song is an anthem that would hopefully be sung (or even hummed ) before a game by the general crowd.
My theory is if you play it ,and maybe a few select others, often ,before games people will begin to associate one of the songs with the Roar.
Nothing is suddenly going to be sung by thousands straight away.
It would take time and repetition.
Slowly over time one might emerge as a favourite and may become the team "anthem".

However a few songs need to be played ,and regularly, for any song to rear its head above the others...who knows maybe we would end up with two or three ?....there is no law saying we can only have one !

That is how most English clubs got their songs....it takes time and persistence.
I don't really care what songs are chosen to be played as the crowd would ultimately decide what they like by responding more to one than others anyway.

Not sure why you are so negative about this ? It has never been tried  at Suncorp. Sure songs have been played in the past but they need to be played repeatedly and over time .

Lumpy ...if you only want to hum that would be your choice ;-).....not everyone wants to chant and scream. Some people might like to simply hum or sing a stirring song. Each to their own.
Much more chance of the general crowd joining in singing a good song than of chanting "Your shit arggghhh" .

Much more chance of the general crowd joining in singing a good song than of chanting "Your shit arggghhh" .

Not to sure that im being negative , like i say good luck , but to be honest ive never been inspired to hum or sing any song that has been played before a game , theres many song that i would sing

along to , but i dont think many other people would be joining in with me , but thats down to musical tastes i suppose .

but yes we should  be able to improve on "your shit arggghhhh , some how i dont think it will happen as folk new to the den like it and join in .

However a few songs need to be played ,and regularly, for any song to rear its head above the others...who knows maybe we would end up with two or three ?....there is no law saying we can only have one !

good luck with the anthem . hope it goes well for you and maybe ill be humming it some time , who knows stranger things have happened , i could find other tunes to hum though , but cant see many people joining in .

That is how most English clubs got their songs....it takes time and persistence.
I don't really care what songs are chosen to be played as the crowd would ultimately decide what they like by responding more to one than others anyway.

You've not been around the Den for a while have you?  You seem to have a very odd view on what actually happens in the Den. Your posts are critical but in a passive way like you want it to be different but feel there's no chance of improving it so you give up.  I don't know you but have you considered trying to implement the changes you think would improve the Den?

singing and join in this thread is full of songs that people wish to sing but its the same old stuff which gets sung . thats how things evolve thats how it works .

I get what you're saying. I really do. It'd be great if we could get the Den spontaneously singing a song that just pops up.  Unfortunately, unless that song is very simple or repeated for a long time or gets a good run pre-math at the pub with a bunch of people the songs tend to go no where fast.

Your solution is fantastic if we were still a group of 50-60 people that gathered in a small space.  But with success brings interest and with interest brings size.  And the simple fact is the bays are not small bays.  They're fucking huge by comparison to a lot of places. So what you may sing in the middle/front/back of the bay will not be heard by others in another area.  Those others start another song which you can't hear. Another group, who also doesn't hear your spontaneous song kicks into another song. Suddenly you've got 3 groups all singing different things and everyone else wondering what the hell is going on.

I'm not rubbishing your suggestions. Simply providing a reasoning why we have the set up we do.  The goal is to provide a strong, united voice from the stands to support the boys. No one ever said "They're the best home end cause there's a few new songs being sung by that group."  Home ends are judged on the collective.

I can't tell you what to sing (regardless if I, Jacob or Pricey have a plastic megaphone in hand or not) and I am happy that you are still making noise. God knows we have a lot of work to get rid of statues in the Den.  But I think it's important to understand why these things are here and what it brings.

With that said, a lot of people are quick to say "Here's what we should do" and very few are willing to say "Here's what we should do, here's why and here's how I can help."

A simple start would be if some possible songs were simply played over the loudspeakers before games. This is how it was done at most football grounds around the world ,including Liverpool.
Whether people end up joining in is irrelevant. It is about getting some songs to become associated with the Roar in peoples minds . Some will begin to sing ,some won't but it would be a start and it needs to be done repetitively over time for it to work.
I have heard some on here criticise Melbournes Stand By Me ....well at least they have people singing ...over time it will become more and more a tradition...meanwhile we will still be having this debate .....and no song.

For once I agree with Sep.

I reckon we give Lean On Me a crack. The Den is in reality only a minority of the crowd as a collective so a decision to put it on or not should not be up to a chosen few.

Give it a crack, if it takes off then awesome. If not then piss it off and go for something else or nothing at all.

Totally Agree the singing. And being thinking along the same lines
One of the ones that they sing at Leicester is Hey Jude. The Na-na-na-na-na-na............................
It is awesome. And you don't need to know any words which is one of the reasons it works. It is played over the loud speakers and everyone sings and everyone knows how it goes.
Whatever you go with, as long as people can sway side to side, hold their scarves up, it will be awesome.
Do It!

Lean on Me would be great and singing a 'team song" is something easy that should definitely happen.

Give it a crack but also be prepared to let this one grow over time. It'll need to be played over the PA at the ground at a predesignated time each home game (prior to kick-off?) - something that will need to be organised by the club.

Maybe the fan forum this week is a good place for raising this?

As has been pointed out, this debate about songs could continue forever without resolution if we don't commit. Commit to Lean on Me. Stick with it for a substantial amount of time. Get the support of the club via PA. Let it grow over time.

Maybe out of the shit that is the Bakries' ownership atm, something good will come - a fan song for the club about sticking witht he players when times aren't great.

Well done.

Who takes this to the club from here and gets it over the PA?

I know it is corny, but I think if the words are put up on the big screen with the bouncing ball it will help.
a) In case not everyone knows the words and b) so that everyone gets the idea we want them singing

Lean on Me just doesn't do it for me.  But if that's what we decide to try, I'll belt it out just as loud.

At the end of the day I think we just need to do something.

I'd really rather it wasn't lean on me. Having experienced a rendition of 'Glad All Over' at Selhurst park I'd prefer something with a bit of bite and vivacity to it rather than something cloying and self-absorbed. 'Friday On My Mind' by the Easybeats for instance. Nothing more fun to sing along to than 60's pop music, it's formulaic in a way that's perfect for football.

At the end of the day I think we just need to do something.

Having a song just for the sake of it is worse than not having anything to begin with. I'd rather we never have a club song in our lives if the other option was arbitrarily choosing something just because Melbourne chose some random half-assed inspirational heap of crap to sing. It defeats the entire idea of having a club song and cheapens it to nothing more than a "we want to join in too!" gimmick that's plagued active support in this country with recycled uninspired songs and chants.

I'm not particularly fond of Powderfinger but Burn Your Name is by far and away the best suggestion I've heard for a club song. At least the band is from here which means something. The chorus suits being belted out which is what happens at games, no one keeps a melody which is why Lean on Me sounds shithouse whenever it's sung at games.

Personally ,I agree with you re "Burn your Name", however I realise that with 10,000 people you will never get consensus on any song.
If someone chooses 3 songs and has them played every home game ,I think one will eventually become the favourite.
If a choice is not put in this way we will never have a song.

As for doing it because others have one .......that is exactly what we are doing....the English teams all have one ...we saw that on TV an want to replicate that atmosphere.
Half the chants the Den does are from somewhere else. We can't afford to be too precious about being seen to copy others....it is inevitable.

Ha ! if you want to be truly original ....lets have Hilltop Hoods "I Won't let you down" as our song....inspirational...and we would be the first club in the world with a rap Club song !

It has actually dawned on me that a club song could be a galvanising thing for the club .
Many fans outside the Den feel self conscious about chanting.
I think however many would feel better about singing a club song .
This would make them feel more included in the whole event.
Who knows ....maybe after singing they will have let their guards down a little and join in some chants

Talked to some mates about Lean On Me and have to admit I did not get a positive reaction.

I really think the  concept is good. Perhaps the  way forwards is to try a different song over the  first six games and see what works and what does not.

Go Betweens - Streets of your Town
Regurgitator - I sucked a lotta c...k to get where I am

Machine Gun Fellatio - Let me be your dirty F....... Whore.....no ?

If its a Brisbane band for geographic sense and ties then why not Butterfly Effect- Gone? specially with the offseason we have had it would be the perfect time to start it

Yes I did start an account just to have a say here, but to be fair I did not know this forum existed either, huge fan from Mackay not sure if there is a newbies welcome thread or not so thought here would be perfect for first post

Welcome to the forum.  I checked out the lyrics on that song - "Now I just want to go home" - that put the nail in the coffin for me.

I think we need to drop the idea of Lean on Me - it's been talked about for years now and hasn't gotten any traction probably because a lot think its pretty shit.

I'd be happy with a Powerfinger song (can live with Burn your name) - from Brisbane, the lyrics are well known, they dont seem to be as polarising as other options.

Most of all I just want some action, any action - it doesn't have to be set in stone but give something a go - its like bloody groundhog day with this topic.

pablo...it doesn't matter what personal songs we like or don't like ...the whole point is that we get songs, any songs, played before games and the crowd will decide by singing along or not....a few songs need to be played regularly to let them sink in and then see which one takes hold.
The lyrics aren't that important...West Ham sing "I'm forever blowing bubbles" !!!

I think it's actually had a reasonable amount of support from the forum.  The difficulty is in converting that to participation on match day.

I'm all for Truly Madly Deeply, but I also think we need to try a few out at the LA and see what sticks.

Not a song suggestion, but have spent the last hour or so watching a series of short documentaries by Copa90.

Active support in our league is not as good as it could be and I, like many of you, want this to change. This is a challenge as there are many contributing factors that are preventing this growth (such as stadiums, arguments over songs to sing beforehand and in the case of the Wanderers, restrictions by authorities that disallow "active" support).

Growth in support for our incredible game won't happen overnight and as seen in many of these videos, is something that has to be organic. The "Battle of Cascadia" between Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders in the MLS is inspiring and I highly recommend watching the video about it. The MLS is arguably the closest league to the A-League and I have no doubt we can achieve what they are doing over there.

something from a Brisbane band would be great. maybe start putting stuff on rotation - Powderfinger, Regurgitator, Custard and many others (i'm just showing my age with those three).

If we are shite this season and we go with the 'Gurg surely we'd be going with "I like your old stuff better than your new stuff"

Not too sure Gone works at the football, but it's a belting song from an unreal band. Shame they're not around anymore, they used to be one of my favourite bands.

"Pick You Up"

When you are set to throw in your hand
When you are far from home
When what you believe is buried in your hands
When you feel outgrown

I'll be the one to pick you up again
When you decide you've had enough of it
I'll be the one
I'll be the one

When your speech is slow
When your eyes are closed
When you feel betrayed
When your heart is frayed
When your feet are cold
When your sights are low

I'll be the one to pick you up again
When you decide you've had enough of it
I'll be the one
I'll be the one

Was a joke. But your song was far too complex.

I'm still keen on Truly Madly Deeply.

Learn the words Priyank.

don't come here that often anymore...
but, if majority are keen on the idea then sure it's worth a go...
considering this song has been suggested tons of times over the last 3-4 years and never took off doesn't give me much hope...

If you want more people to join in throughout the stadium and beyond the Den then it has th be a song that everyone knows at least the chorus so they can join in. The problem with Pick you Up is that very few people in the stands will recognise it and they won't join in. People have to feel confident to do this and they won't if the song is not familiar to them.

Also how do we get the stadium to at least play the chorus over the PA. I am sure you guys have explored this but having it played before the game would help people associate the song with the event and add to the possibility of them joining.

Have we approached the club to get their support for introducing a fan song.

we had a little unofficial active support meeting last night with people from the club where a number of things were discussed and the last thing we spoke about was a club song.   Some good things came up and while no one particular song was chosen the club is keen to get something happening and having it played over the pa system at suncorp.  And yes the Truly Madly Deeply thing did get a look in and was well supported by the club.

Truly Madly Deeply is great. Was at a Hibernian V Hearts match at Tynecastle Stadium a long time ago and the Hibernian's fans belting out i would walk 500 miles. It was awesome. Plenty of fans sing songs at matches that they would never usually listen to, other then to learn the words to be part of something at game day.

Just sayin....  Doesn't have to be original lyrics...

Truly madly deeply spin -

You live our dreams
You live our wish You live our fantasy
You are our hope You are our love
You're everything that we need
We love you more with every breath
Truly, madly, deeply do
We will be strong We will be faithful
'cause we're counting on
A new beginning
Our reason for living
A deeper meaning, yeah

[chorus:]
We want to stand with you on the mountain
We're going to chant you to top of the league
We're going to stay up there forever
Until the sky falls down on me

And when the stars are shining
In black orange skies,
We'll chant up to heaven
Then make you want to fly
Cry tears of joy for all the
Goals and silver toilet seats
That we're surrounded by the
comfort and protection of

The highest powers
Thank god you're ours
BRFC we're YOU!!

[chorus:]
We want to stand with you on
a mountain
We're going to chant you to top of the league
We're going to stay up there forever
Until the sky falls down on me

Anyone got variations of other songs they want to put out there?

I don't hate it.

My biggest issue is that by changing the words we'd be asking everyone to learn them.  Maybe not a huge issue for those of us on here, but one of the biggest advantages of this song is that everyone knows the chorus so it's easy for the masses to get involved.  Change the words and you won't get buy-in from the rest of the stadium.

So what?  Lean on Me is the same.  Stand by Me is the same, but the Victory make it sound great.  Adelaide are using Wonderwall - great song, but I'd still say the lyrics are 'soppy bollox'.

Thousands of people singing the same thing will make any song sound awesome.  That's the thing though, it needs to be a song the masses can pick up easily (something well known).

I've said it before - it doesn't really matter what song is chosen, I'll belt it out regardless.  Having said that, I have a preference the same as everyone else.

For some reason we seem to be waiting either for the perfect song that everyone agrees with (not going to happen) or for the club to force a song on us (who wants to risk that?).  This thread (and others before it) just go in circles: 'how about this song?', 'no, how about this song', etc.

Let's just pick something that has moderate support and is known to the public and give it a go.  If it doesn't stick, so be it.  Alternatively, forget the idea of a team song all together.  But the fact that this discussoin has been going on for so long (despite no resolution) indicates that there is support for the idea of a team song.

totally agree with you Aussieshorter...there will never be total consensus for any song..so someone with a bit of clout just pick a couple and get them played prematch and see which takes off !
I don't love any song but will give something a go if it is played and people join in .

so we have to have a song because Victory and Adelaide have one?
I'm all for singing a song at the football, if it develops organically - like that song that Boozey hates, sung by the club that Boozey hates - but, to go rushing into selecting a club song just because we don't have one and other teams do or because we're worried the club will force one on us, just doesn't sit right with me...it becomes plastic and false....al la AFL.
If we don't want the club to pick a song, tell them. I doubt they're going to force anything on us at the moment, they're trying to recover good will.
Miron's idea, seems the best one...but more than a couple of songs ....maybe a handful. If people start singing, keep playing. Eventually there'll be a crowd favourite that will stick...or there won't.

Of course we don't need a song just because other clubs have one. You've missed my point completely.  The comment was in response to you saying it was just 'soppy bollox'.  Victory and Adelaide have songs that fit in that category and they make them work with great success (Victory at least, Adelaide is yet to be seen).

On the rest of your comment, we're in agreeance.  My comment to Boozey was:

Quote
Let's just pick something that has moderate support and is known to the public and give it a go.  If it doesn't stick, so be it.  Alternatively, forget the idea of a team song all together.  But the fact that this discussoin has been going on for so long (despite no resolution) indicates that there is support for the idea of a team song.

I'm not suggesting we rush anything.  I'm saying let's give something a go.  If it doesn't work, no harm done.

I'm not sure what you think developing a song organically means? Does it not mean something that starts as a suggestion from the fans and grows into something bigger as (if) it gets support? Exactly what I'm talking about?  We're not going to just magically have a song one day.  Discussions like this are were club traditions start.

Yeah organic development is fine just go for it. Something you can do is have songs for different situations in the game. LIke when the opposition make a sub you can belt out the Who's,,,, Substitute,  or Pinball wizard is good when the Roar score may suit Jamie????? You just gotta find song that cross the generation gaps. This the bulk of the crowd fills in even if its' only the chorus.

I suggest "Lean on Me" and maybe two or three others ..start playing them prematch...if one takes off great ....if not ...we pick two or three others until we get one that works.

Everyone is overthinking this....nothing is set in stone...don't be scared if your favourite doesn't make the list...it may still be played at some stage.
it is simply a case of someone going to the Roar and saying "these are some songs we want played"

Was going to suggest Terroarist but after his "Barbie Girl" comment I am not sure I trust him . ;)

Song associated with either our first, second or third GF wins.
Song associated with winning the league

We've a history that other clubs are envious of. Let's celebrate it.

West Ham's "Bubbles" became popular because of song rotation. The local band used to play a bunch of songs pre-match, and bubbles became the crowd favourite. Does anyone call Hammers singing bubbles plastic?

Nothing plastic or pathetic about giving things a whirl. So many old bastards on here scared of change.

That's not true though, is it? I thought it had some connection to some soap commercial? Not the song, but the reason it started.

Not quite either,
The song is nearly 100 years old and started as a joke because one of the west ham players looked like the little boy in the poster of the pears soap advert.

And there I was thinking the song referred to Michael Jackson and his pet chimp..."I'm forever blowing Bubbles!!"

Well after 7 pages and 4 years of posts on this thread, it's obvious that this forum will never have any effect on the club ever getting a song.

As such let me throw another song into the mix, "That's Life".

I can already imagine the entire stadium singing this, though I'm fairly confident my imagination is as far as it will ever go.

If I somehow liken the discussion of a song in this thread to some analogy related to Hitler and the Nazis, will this thread be over?

I honestly can't believe that this is still a discussion. FFS. How can this be that hard?

In honour of this thread, I propose that the Roar song be this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0U2zJOryHKQ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0U2zJOryHKQ)

If you don't know the lyrics, they are pretty easy... maybe they could be put up on the screen so that everyone can sing along.

See the lyrics here: http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/The_Song_That_Never_Ends/lyrics (http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/The_Song_That_Never_Ends/lyrics)

This whole debate is huge embarrassment for football in this city.

Most other clubs have their shit in order or doing something positive to develop a song.

Recently stumbled over the 2GB/4BC A League show on Sunday mornings and they were debating this issue.

They were promoting the search for a song to be played at the Sydney Derby next week.

Now that is what I call the club owners getting involved, promoting and developing the idea - for free (any secret envelopes under the table notwithstanding).

I see this saga just going on and on and on and on and on and on ad infinitum.

I reckon if there are 300 members in the Den, that there would be 400 song suggestions.

I stand by Rains of Castamere as #1. I also like "Pick You Up" suggestion by Terroarist.

But we've had countless song suggestion threads and still no motion to actually organize one so this is all just fun speculation for me. Maybe we don't need one though? MV wish so badly that they were like Liverpool or another cult club from England that it's cringe-worthy.

I have the perfect song for this club, the tune for which is universally known:

Who's the leader of the League
That's made for you and me
B-R-I-S-B-A-N-E  R-O-A-R
Hey! there, Hi! there, Ho! there
You're as welcome as can be
B-R-I-S-B-A-N-E  R-O-A-R

BRISBANE ROAR

BRISBANE ROAR

Forever let us hold our banner
High! High! High! High!

Come along and sing a song
And join the jamboree!
B-R-I-S-B-A-N-E  R-O-A-R

Brisbane Roar club
We'll have fun
We'll be new faces
High! High! High! High!

We'll do things and
We'll go places
All around the world
We'll go marching

Who's the leader of the League
That's made for you and me
 B-R-I-S-B-A-N-E  R-O-A-R
Hey! there, Hi! there, Ho! there

You could also try "Burn Your Name" by Powderfinger. Some parts would fit for the club at the moment and some others too. Not too slow, not too quick and is fairly simplistic in course so would be easy enough to catch on for people not up on the lyrics or band

(and for all those "fake" Liverpool fans ...yes {a poxy song for a poxy team from poxy engerland} is actually played over the loudspeakers at Anfield... even now ! )

SFLR - Cheers. Not really a a Powderfinger fan, but the lyrics are are transferable. Being a Brisbane band, as said, is fitting and is generally helpful in getting a local connection. That, and it's upbeat and isn't "soppy" and depressing

Not bad.  Lyrics are quite simple as well, so easy to learn.

POWDERFINGER LYRICS

"Burn Your Name"

I was stumbling right by
Like a wreck I came to you
So I staggered through the night
 Seeking out your rescue blues
Gonna burn your name right across the sky
So I never forget what the feeling's like
Gonna burn your name right across the sky
So I never forget what the feeling's like

I want every single soul to know
That I love you for what you are
So I sound the bells that praise your precious heart

So tomorrow will arrive
In a burst o' broken light
And a spell will hold us back
 Shattering like glass

I want every single soul to know
That I love you for what you are
So I sound the bells that praise your precious heart
I want every single soul to know
That I love you for what you are
So I sound the bells that praise your precious heart

Burn your name right across the sky
So I never forget what the feeling's like
Burn your name right across the sky
So I never forget what the feeling's like
Burn your name right across the sky
So I never forget what the feeling's like
Burn your name right across the sky
So I never forget what the feeling's like

Of all the suggestions in relation to Brisbane band songs, this ones probably the best.

HOW THE HELL HAS THE CLUB NOT CHOSEN "MY HAPPINESS" BY POWDERFINGER AS THEIR THEME SONG YET??

Every single bloody lyric in that song is relevant to football fan devotion towards a team "my happiness is slowly creeping back now you're at HOME...", "I hope that time hasn't changed you..." "waiting for a knock coming way too late..." - (SEND HIM OFF REF!)

"Lean on me" is a good song, but it just doesn't have that Brissy vibe to it, that rough edge, you know what I mean? Also, it's hard for Aussies to sing...more suited to the soulful parts of America.

Powderfinger are from Brisbane and everyone in the country knows "My Happiness". It's a song with an emotive build-up, the chorus packs a punch and those iconic twangs throughout the song are instantly recognisable - it's the cue for everyone to stand up and raise their scarfs.

Get the club to at least give "my happiness" a trial for one or two games. We need this soon! I don't know about you guys but hearing Fall-out Boy play as our lads walk out makes me hang my head in shame.

Its actually not that depressing, looking at the lyrics, it could be mistaken for being written for the exact purpose of being a football song for when the teams at home.

"My Happiness"

I see your shadow on the street now
I hear you push through the rusty gate
Click of your heels on the concrete
Waiting for a knock coming way too late
It seems an age since I've seen you
Countdown as the weeks trickle into days

So you come in and put your bags down
I know there's something in the air
How can I do this to you right now
If you're over there when I need you here

My happiness is slowly creeping back
Now you're at home
If it ever starts sinking in
It must be when you pack up and go

It seems an age since I've seen you
Countdown as the weeks trickle into days
I hope that time hasn't changed you
All I really want is for you to stay

I know I know I know what is inside

Hope you're being serious. Optimistic song with some highly appropriate lyrics about debt.
Even better than the dedication to beautiful football that is West Ham's 'We're forever blowing bubbles', and without any claims we're swiping another club's song.

Me too, I hadn't even picked up on it until reading it on here (not a den regular unfortunately). I think it's bloody brilliant.

I really wish the walk out song was heavier with a bit more.....oomph. Finger and lean on me don't do it for me. But i know my previous suggestion (Immortalized - Disturbed) is probably unlikely..  ;)  I do think the lyrics fit though..

I see your shadow on the street now
I hear you push through the rusty gate
Click of your heels on the concrete
Waiting for a knock coming way too late
It seems an age since I've seen you
Countdown as the weeks trickle into days

So you come in and put your bags down
I know there's something in the air
How can I do this to you right now
If you're over there when I need you here

My happiness is slowly creeping back
Now you're at home
If it ever starts sinking in
It must be when you pack up and go

It seems an age since I've seen you
Countdown as the weeks trickle into days
I hope that time hasn't changed you
All I really want is for you to stay

I know I know I know what is inside

Lyrics seem somewhat appropriate (talk of being happy when you're at home) and the song comes from an iconic Brisbane band.

Definitely one of the more appropriate suggestions and good to see the club has taken it onboard.

Way better than the alternative of Katy Perry.

Suggestion is the lyrics will be on the big screen ....just as well... because about 3 people in the Stadium will actually know anything other than the chorus.

i'm sure more than 3 people will know the words haha..

but yes talk of putting lyrics on the screen, possibly only playing it up until end of first chorus.. as we have to fit who are we after this..

Of course there's not gonna be 100% buy in from the crowd from the first game..

Let it grow...

my happiness???

I don't think anyone has been that happy lately, nor can i see any happiness in the near future.

I really don't think its a great song for a football club.

But then again, what great decisions have we seen lately...

Hopefully the boys play well tonight.

Especially as we are not Brisbane Heat, Brisbane Bullets nor a myriad other Brisbanes.
