BRISBANE Roar continue to be recognised for their good start to the A-League season, with striker Jamie Maclaren named the Professional Footballers Australia player of October.

Maclaren?s reward from his peers came hot on the heels of strike partner Brandon Borrello last week being named the A-League?s young player of the month.

Between them, they have scored seven of the second-placed Roar?s 10 goals this season and tormented rivals.

?The season has started really well and I?m really enjoying my football and this award just tops it off,? 22-year-old Maclaren said.

?I would like to thank my teammates and the coaching staff who have made me feel so welcome at the club.?

Maclaren, who has netted three goals in five matches this season, is relishing being a regular starter since moving to the Roar from Perth Glory, where he was confined to a supersub role.

?As a striker you want a coach that backs you and I wasn?t backed at Perth for whatever reason,? he told The Courier-Mail last month.

Unfortunately for the Roar, Maclaren won?t get the chance to take on the Glory on Sunday at Suncorp Stadium due his selection in the Olyroos squad playing matches against Qatar and Iran.

His place in the Roar forward line is expected to be taken by Dimitri Petratos, who will shift from the midfield role he has occupied this season.

At the defensive end of the park, the Roar have kept successive clean sheets, with centre-back Daniel Bowles confident the Brisbane backline can produce another shut-out against the Glory.

?We?ve got a strong team and it?s important for us to keep a clean sheet and give the team every opportunity to score goals and win the game,? Bowles said.

?Every day we?re learning. It?s not perfect yet ... but we?re happy with where we are at the moment.? (
