Brisbane Roar could lose Olyroos defender James Donachie after previous administration contract cock-up (http://www.news.com.au/sport/football/brisbane-roar-could-lose-olyroos-defender-james-donachie-after-previous-administration-contract-cockup/news-story/0ddb940586e654c96a7567a35b3a7bb0?sv=22350195a9c1e20d6f1964a334400067)

BRISBANE Roar defender James Donachie was on Wednesday contemplating his future after a contract cock-up by the club?s previous administration left the three-time A-League champions vulnerable to losing the Olyroos defender at season?s end on a free transfer.

Under the guidance of then bosses Sean Dobson (managing director) and Ken Stead (football director), the Roar announced in November 2013 that Donachie had signed a contract extension taking him through to the end of the 2016-17 season.

But a failure to properly check documentation led to a contract expiry date of May 2016 being lodged with FFA despite the paperwork containing financial terms through to 2017.

As a result, and much to the shock of the Roar?s current football department, Donachie?s name appeared on an official list recently sent out to all clubs of players entering the final six months of their contract.

Not surprisingly, at least one rival club has already approached Roar football operations manager Craig Moore about negotiating with the centre-back, who despite his undoubted talent is currently stuck on Brisbane?s bench due to the form of Daniel Bowles and Jade North.

The Roar wanted to last night lodge with FFA a correctly dated Donachie contract, but gave the 22-year-old until today to sign new paperwork that will cement him as a Roar player at least until the end of 2016-17.

That is provided FFA accept the re-lodged contract and take him off the list of A-League players whose deals are expiring at the end of this season.

?We see Donks (Donachie) as a big part of the club?s future,? Roar coach John Aloisi said.

?We?d love him to stay on. We know one day he?s going to want to play overseas and we?d love to help him fulfil his potential .?

The embarrassing contract gaffe of the Roar?s previous staff is not what Aloisi and Moore need as they work through an extensive list of other Brisbane players soon to be off-contract.

They are defenders Bowles, North, Jack Hingert and the retiring Shane Stefanutto, midfielders Steve Lustica, Devante Clut and Javier Hervas, attackers Brandon Borrello, Henrique and Jean Carlos Solorzano, and goalkeeper Jamie Young.

The Roar visit Gosford on Sunday to take on competition cellar dwellers Central Coast Mariners.

Just another cock up in a long list.
Nothing that happened under the Dobson and Stead "leadership" surprises me anymore.
2014-2015 is a dim and distant nightmare until we get reminders like this of how badly the  club was being run.
Here is my thought on the list
Donks : keep
Hingert : keep
Stefanutto : retire
Lustica : keep
Clut  : a few months go I would have said yes. Now not so sure
Hervas : not convinced yet.
Borrello : keep if he starts firing again. Depends on how many goals he gets
Solorzano : keep if he starts firing again. Depends on how many goals he gets
Young : he's a keeper

That's a straight-up weird error to make. You have the club's people and Donachie's agent/people surely running their eyes over this. And then the official lodgment of the contract within the FFA/A-League head office (for salary cap scrutiny/audit purposes).

I have no clue how this happened, although, like many others, I am not surprised. How on earth do you go an "accidentally" put one date on one form and another date on another form? It's literally baffling. Dobson and Stead couldn't organise a BBQ at a park

If the expectation (offer) was for a deal to cover up to the end of the 2016-17 year, and this offer was accepted, then surely that is a binding contract, regardless of the date incorrectly placed on one of a ni umber of documents.....?

Yes gooseman, I am with you on this. The dates incorporated in the contract document should be binding, and override any clerical errors or oversights that occurred after the contract was signed.
