It might be worth going as it is about the Academy, and what there plans are.

my take is that JA is using his new experience approach, they will be scouting the over 35 Brisbane leagues for potential Academy signings.

:)

The presentation was OK.... a lot of optimistic talk. A fair chunk of it was saying the obvious things. Seems the new model is just getting started. Will require npl partnerships to work.

The presentation also highlighted to me some naivety in the club's thinking. They still think we play possession based attacking football....they need to watch any of the roar games against victory, wsw or sydney from last season. The idea that we are a top team is a hang over from the ange and mulvey era.

Er, third two years running...

agreed ...I think theoworldwide suffers from a distinct "glass half empty" syndrome. Seems to always feel we are shit . There were seven teams shitter than us the last two years in a row... ;) ;) ;)

...also...what I saw on the Facebook feed (between posting photos of what I had for breakfast), was the whole presentation was about the academy...it was aspirational. The mention of "possession based attacking football" was in the context of explaining that when you see a partner team playing, you'll be able to say that they're playing the Roar style.
Any questions about what the current men's team are doing etc, were quickly dispensed with and the topic returned to the academy.

Yeah you're right. I've definitely had my fan boy optimism about the club beaten out of me over the last ~4 season. I do genuinely think we are shit to watch and not well coached imo. But you can't jump ship when it's your local club. I'll try to tone down my posts and be a bit more optimistic.

IMO managers will come and go but it's imperative that the Roar Academy keeps the essence, culture and mantra of our best playing style which were produced under the Ange era.

Exactly my position, ww.

I think we're in for a tough season, but the club is the club.

I can understand fans feeling things aren't as good as we would wish....but guys... look at how things are now and how they were exactly one year ago when that conman Cobb was nearly our owner  .
We now have some financial stability and a reasonably strong side ...and yes... there are legitimate concerns about its age .
JA and his team are still relative rookies in the coaching world so I expect a few errors to be made while they learn.
So far he has made errors but still managed to keep us competitive ....and in pretty difficult circumstances.

This year he has had a settled preseason so it will be interesting to see how he goes .
I think he has real potential to be a great coach but it takes time and unfortunately, in any undertaking ,the best learning is done by making mistakes. So as long as he learns from them it will be to our future benefit . They will all add to his experience.

So don't be so down about the current state of affairs...we ain't lookin' so bad really . (ha ! I imagine if we have a shocker of a season I will be looking back at this shaking my head....but it's
 too early for that now)

I completely forget about the Cobb saga, what a train wreck that was

Good post.

i think the season revolves around Holman. if we want to give finals a shake he really needs to lift. Admittedly he was injury affected last season but we need more from a marquee player. The biggest problem we have is the missing  spark that Oar and Borello brought. I just don't see we have replaced them. Maybe Gameiro if he is fit?

FBK will be required to give us some drive in the front third too.

Is this the season where Shannon Brady finally gets his chance and also performs for the club? He signed a 4 year contract way back in early 2015 (Pre JA era) but has hardly seen any action.

Brady to me seems very unpredictable but I haven't seen enough of him to decide if he has what it takes. If he can step up he could be a very useful impact sub ala Henrique.
So where is Gameiro anyway ? Still not playing...surely not injured ?
