Title: BBL/ AFLX
Post by: Septic Bladder on December 28, 2017, 01:19:16 PM
I watched Brisbane Heat (another terrible name and colour - what is that, Teal Blue? For a team called Heat?) play the Lime Green Team from Sydney.

Brisbane won a very entertaining game and they got over 30,000 at the Gabba.

Got me thinking, maybe FFA should organise a festive season 6 or 7 a side tournament. 10 min each way, multiple games each night, play in each of 5 capital cities once, then a one night finals series. Possibly add non A League teams in expanded format.

So total of 6 nights over say two weeks.

Promote it, new product to sell, hopefully a goal fest, large crowds etc etc

The A League looks tired. Time for a freshen up.

Would you invite ex-'greats' to play ?? or keep to current stars
Brisbane - ? Henrique, Craig Moore, Farina, JA
Craig Foster, Bosnich, Slater ?
Viduka

Brisbane could wear yellow for banana benders.

No.

They would all risk heart attacks.

Current players only - probably emphasis on the younger ones.

....not without merit Sep.Anything to shake things up a little .
Main problem as I see it is would have to be played on a smaller field and may not look good at most stadiums .Maybe 8 a side on a field only slightly smaller than normal ?. Speedy exciting forwards would be the go and lots of goals for all the non football morons who need lots of action.....what happens if this is popular ? it could detract from our beautiful "real" football.
I think we are better just getting new teams in our existing comp and get some good name marquess (but how ? they all go to China now)

Do they make the field smaller for 7s Rugby?

We would want lots of open spaces so players can get free and shoot.

Eight players on a smaller field would just create the same spacial relationships as the normal game and reduce the scoring.

don't know and don't care ...what relationship has Rugby got to football ?
if you played 8 players on a full sized field it would be a boring speed competition of long through balls and see what 100 metre sprint champion can score the most ....there is a reason Sep that Futsal is played on a smaller pitch...it keeps the football skills going .

MM youare too old to understand my vision.

It would fast and furious but full of ball skills and shooting

And 7 a side.

1 keeper, a front 3 and a back 3, played on field of the minimum FIFA standard.

Unlimited interchange.

..and played on local fields. Real grass roots stuff. 'Eagleby Meth Warriors' vs 'Beenliehg Bogans' for example.

While we few struggle to discuss this idea on a forum, the AFL is doing it!

I read in the Courier Mail today, that AFLX starts soon:

1. On RECTANGULAR fields
2. 10 minutes each way
3.  SEVEN a side with only 3 reserves
4.  In three States
5. February 15-17
