Solorzano set to strike
« on: October 28, 2010, 09:13:36 PM »
Costa Rican striker Jean Carlos Solorzano says his first Hyundai A-League goal has given him a huge confidence boost heading into the rest of the season.

A troublesome quad since his arrival in Australia has delayed his league debut and has restricted his playing time, but even after finding the back of the net against Melbourne Victory, Solorzano feels he’s got more to give in a Brisbane jersey.

Solorzano showed his attacking instincts in the 77th minute by pouncing on a poorly defended ball and hammering it past Victory ‘keeper Michael Petkovic in his fifth appearance for the Roar.

“With every goal comes confidence, so now I am confident I can score more for the team,” he said.

“I am very, very happy to get my first goal for Brisbane.

“The last three months have been tough for me and I am thankful to God it worked out well and I scored my first goal.”

Solorzano was quick to give credit to central defender Luke DeVere, who’s maurading run through the midfield set up the decisive strike.

“I was in a good position, I was just waiting for Luke to pass to me,” he said.

“I didn’t think I was going to get it, but thankfully and luckily it landed at my feet and it’s my job to be in those positions and hit the target.”

Nicknamed “Nico” by his Brisbane teammates because he hails from a Costa Rican town called Nicoya, the 22-year-old has been taking English lessons at a local college and says he’s enjoying life in the Queensland capital.

“All the boys have been very good to me, and they’re always helping me out whenever I need,” he said.

“That shows on the field, how much we get along, and now that I understand English a bit more, it makes it easier.

“I’m very happy here, Brisbane try to play the best type of football and that suits me very well.”

Seems to have a bit of an eye for goal, this chap. The goal he scored was harder to put away than he is getting credit for. And he has been shooting on sight when he has the ball in and around the 18 yard box.

Missing ingredient?
