Not at the cinemas but I torrented and watched This Is The End over the weekend.

Good lord I'm glad I didn't pay anything for that movie.

Who'd have thought a movie with Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, James Franco and basically every other actor out of every decent comedy for the last 3 years could make such an awful movie.

Conversely, I also watched The Watch a few weeks back and I was a bit nervous and not expecting much after all the ordinary reviews it had gotten but I actually found it really quite brilliant. Richard Ayoade is amazing in it and it's probably my favourite role from Vince Vaughan in years.

I was actually gonna make a post about watching This Is The End recently as well.. I agree that it was pretty crap.. I can only imagine that it must've been funny as hell for the actors to parody themselves. Pity it's more of an "inside joke" kinda movie.

Yeah left me cold as well...I think they wrote, directed and acted that whole thing whilst stoned. Very self indulgent film and not very funny.

Are we there yet?

As far as this topic goes - if you want to watch a very weird Japanese movie, watch Battle Royal on Foxtel's World Movies channel.

I only added The movie package so I could watch the Newsroom. have now cancelled it.

Not long to go now.
I bet you couldn't help yourself and watched, (only to get your monies worth),  some of those R-rated movies before you cancelled.

Have this on DVD, brilliant, monochrome suits the scenario.
Another film in this genre is the original version of Lord of the Flies.

Massive night tonight, from a Brisbane perspective.

In a Manila cinema, at 8pm Brisbane time, a documentary pretty much a decade in the making gets its world premiere. And it started right here in Brisbane.

To explain it, I need to introduce two people to the mix. The first is former Trash Video owner, and member of such illustrious Brisbane bands as The Vaginabillies and Big Bongin' Baby, Mr Andrew Leavold.

Next is the subject of his documentary, star of Philippine cinema throughout the late 70s and early 80s, a 2 foot 9 inch primordial dwarf (and the Guiness Book Record holder for the shortest lead actor in a motion picture) - Weng Weng.

For Y'ur Height Only (1981) Video Classics Australia Trailer

When Andrew first saw the 1981 James Bond pisstake movie "For Y'Ur Height Only", starring Weng Weng as Agent 00, he wondered what happened to him. So around 2006, Andrew flew over to Manila to begin the search. Since then, he's returned 10 times, met everyone there is to know in the Philippine movie industry, performed numerous interviews & lectures, and, after raising the editing completion funds via Kickstarter, finally finished the full edit of his documentary in Manila.. TWO DAYS AGO !!!

TONIGHT..... THE SEARCH FOR WENG WENG....... ENDS.

(Also plugging the doco since my roommate is the co-producer. He came onboard in 2009, and has been to Manila 7 times since then. Right now, they're suiting up in their Manila hotel, excited and nervous as all hell. Couldn't be more proud. :)

That is a cool story 10AC. Weng Weng also got a few showings on Japanese TV and a recent ABC doc about exploitation cinema also had hi on for a few seconds, IIRC.

Was that Machete Maidens Unleashed by Mark Hartley ? Yeh, basically, SFWW was floundering back in 2009, so Hartley bought Andrew's notes to use for MM (which meant Andrew couldn't do anything on WW until 2011 or so), and barely used any of them. The blessing though was that the info Andrew got since 2009 has changed/shaped the story so much more. As he said before he flew out a few weeks ago (he crashed on our couch as we live close to the airport), if Weng Weng came out in 2009, it would've been nowhere near the story it's ended up as. He feels it was destiny the roadblocks happened.

Also, THIS doesn't happen :

http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/entertainment/movies/you-me-and-imelda-brisbane-filmmakers-unexpected-philippines-adventure-20120831-255or.html

I saw the footage when he and Daniel got back. Getting to meet Imelda Marcos at the family estate, going to her 83rd birthday party, and then seeing where former President Ferdinand Marcos lies in state !!!!! Now THAT'S a money shot and a half.

I know exactly how gratuitous this is going to be and I do not care.

This will be awesome.

Cinema hosts ?Mums and Bubs? session of Lars von Trier?s sex-fest Nymphomaniac

DANISH director Lars von Trier?s latest film Nymphomaniac is a four-hour orgy of graphic, often sadomasochistic sex.

Fun for the whole family! That?s what one New York cinema says, anyway. The R-rated flick is the story of a woman?s erotic journey from birth to the age of 50 as told by the main character, the self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg).

Along the way, Joe shags just about everyone she can get her hands on, including Hollywood actors Shia LeBouf and Jamie Bell. The film?s graphic sex scenes have attracted widespread controversy, with von Trier scenes so explicit von Trier has had to explain they were performed by pornographic body doubles and not the actors themselves.

For New York?s Sunshine Cinema, it all sounds like the perfect recipe for a midday ?Babes in Arms? session:

It?s a conundrum, cinema lovers. The R-rated sex-fest is in no way appropriate viewing for a child ... but they do get a FREE TICKET!

Guardians of the Galaxy.
Any good?

I read an article saying they originally considered H John Benjamin (the actor who voices Archer) to do the voice for Rocket.

That would have made it a 300% better movie.

Still good though.
