Not interested. I won't watch the opening ceremony, though I do like Underworld. I'll get enough of the thing via the radio and the news.Grown adults splashing about in the bathtub....I don't care. Why am I meant to, as an Aussie, get excited over swimming. Big deal, you possess the ability of not drowning, so do I.That my tax dollars line the pockets of those that go to the A.I.S and they do not repay a cent, yet at the same time doctors, nurses and teachers at UNI are accruing a HECS debt that has to be repayed and all so they can then go forth and benefit the country. Boggles my mind. You wish to care for the sick, the dying or educate the next generation then you need to pay for the privilege. You want to throw a big heavy ball as a career then line up and I'll pay your way.The bloody thing should be once a century, not every four years

(That said, I'm sure the media could find a few ill-educated idiots out there in the USA as the Chaser did a couple of years about but by the same token you could find bogan dead-heads in Australia who know nothing meaningful about the USA.)
Actually people I know here do no get Austria and Australia mixed up
Wow! What an exciting game! The US women beat Canada 4-3 off a header in the 122 minute. The US is through to the final were we will face Japan.
Japan lost their semi final, and so did Korea. So those two will play off for the Bronze. Mexico will play Brazil for the Gold. YAY for Sally Pearson and Anna Meares (and that ginger sailer bloke, but he's from the slum off the freeway, so we don't care about him). Queenslanders as well I believe, leading Australia once again at sport.Crazy thing is that with 4 gold we have now wrangled our way up to 11th, which isn't really that bad, still behind bloody borat land though.I believe we have another Gold to come at least in the sailing, if not two. The kookaburras are looking very good in the hockey, and if the Cameron Ling impersonator can not scare himself but being 5 odd meters up in the air, we could be good there.
I was a little disappointed that once we passed NZ in the tally we virtually forgot about them and focussed on passing Kazakstan. Would have liked to see more mind games from Australia's Chef de Mission Nick Green towards the Kiwi's ala Alex Ferguson style. "Good to see our friends across the ditch managed to get a couple of medals. To bad it was sitting down and going backwards." or "New Zealand won gold? I didn't realise sheep shearing was an olympic sport now."
