Roar fans in Melbourne
« on: July 28, 2012, 07:37:55 AM »
Hi there lads,

Ok, i'm pretty brand new to these forums, with only a couple of posts to my name. I made a short post in the intro's thread, so I wont do a full recap, but the gist is I am big Roar fan living in Melbourne. Everyone call me Fog, and you all can too. :)

My question is, is there any type of organisation of Roar fans living in Melbourne? The reason I ask this is because as I was thinking about being frustrated I wont be able to see many home games this season (again), it made me think about what I can possibly do from down here to help the lads out.

I have lived in Melbourne for a good 1.5-2 years since moving from Brissie, and I am always surprised about how many ex-Brisbanites I meet living down here, for work or anything.

The idea:

Tap into these guys living in Melbourne to get them to come along to the games and drum up some good support for the Roar. Something as simple as a Facebook page to act as a little reminder for people who sign up that the games are on, and try and encourage them to come along to the games.

I have been to all Brisbane away games in Melbourne since I moved down, and the support is great, but I honestly think we can fill the away bay. As there are only 3 or so games a season at this stage in Melbourne, this isn't the easiest or swiftest goal to achieve, but I don't think it is impossible.

If I am wrong, and there aren't many "untapped fans" as such, then I will be happy to have tried.

I have set up a page, just to begin with on Facebook (link below). If anyone has any ideas, comments, a link to something like this that is already happening (I can't seem to find anything), or anything at all, I would appreciate it!

Thanks for the read,

There's a decent chance that once I graduate from Uni (18 months time), I'll be moving down to Melbourne. This would be a great initiative and something I would definitely love to be a part of.

Although I'm still up here and moving down there isn't a sure thing, I'll still join the group and see how I can help out from up here in any way possible.

If you get enough numbers, perhaps you could consider starting a

"Melbourne-based BRFC Supporters Club"

Long long shot but once there's a sufficient supporter base, you could approach BRFC/AAMI Park and enquire about starting Away Bay season tickets for Roar games at AAMI Park????
Good post mate.  But don't you think it's time to change that sig quote?  :P

I know a bloke who's thinking about moving down to melbourne and he might be in for it. I'll pass it along.

Great initiative!

P.S. Perhaps you should email the club and maybe they might put a link up on the BRFC website or on their own fb/twitter account and give you a plug :)

I'm an ex Melbourne Roar fan now living OS. There are/were a few of us down there.

The big number of Roar fans you will find in Melbourne are the Franjic family. I remember one game at AAMI when there was 20 plus something of them. Contacting them should be at the top of your list.

Oh, thanks for that. I figure that a lot of my progress will probably have to wait until game 1 in Melbourne, so I will definitely ask around for that.
