What's the go with MATT THURTELL?
« on: August 06, 2012, 04:48:00 PM »
Came across this 442 article today.
http://au.fourfourtwo.com/news/247321,destination-a-league-for-teenage-hitman.aspx

Why isn't he still at the Roar?  His stats look pretty good.

Stats = Form.

Form at a young age isn't important.

At his age its the manner of the goals, and his rate of improvement that they'd be more interested in.

The article actually says at the end that "the roar are in the process of finalising their NYL squad for the upcoming season" Ie. they haven't dumped him yet but haven't offered a new contract either.

To be honest Tim Smits was scoring goals for fun at Rochedale before coming to the Roar but just never clicked in the A-league .Haven't seen Thurtell but Rado obviously has . Maybe he is like Smits,good in BPL but not so suited to A-League ?   I guess time will tell if Rado keeps him on the books.

Tim's a 90 minute player. You don't put Tim Smits on for 2 minutes at the end of the game and expect him to do a Solskjaer.  He's just not that type of player.

There's some info on Matt Thurtell at the bottom of the link. All that it says is that he managed to score 4 goals for the Roar NYL team in the 2010/2011 season.

For some reason your comment made me think of this:
Bob Dole likes to talk about Bob Dole!

Scored an absolute screamer against the Fire on Sunday. 2 Strikers vs 2 Fire defenders on a Strikers counter, Fire defender headed to clear the ball and landed in the path of Thurtell 35-40 yards out. Smacked it and curled into the top right hand corner at blistering pace. Nothing the keeper could do. Apart from that, he wasn't overly threatening but he did a fairly good job upfront for them. Wouldn't be the worst striker in the Roar if he's still with the club
