Former player Matt Thurtell ruptured his ACL for Bentleigh Greens on the weekend and is out for the season - https://www.facebook.com/BentleighGreens/photos/a.385945341508213.1073741825.218914414877974/591575767611835/?type=1&fref=nf

Reinaldo is on the books at Malaysian Super League side Sime Darby FC. And Issy Nakajima-Farran is also in Malaysia, playing for Terengganu FA.

Looking a little deeper.... Reinaldo's side is dead last in Malaysia, he's listed as an Australian AND he's only 31 in June.

Long shot idea, but a 2 year deal for him to come back to Brisbane, at an affordable price (not import money-worth)...... could be a bargain buy, if the contract was done smartly. Wouldn't take up an import spot.....

I always had a soft sport for Reinaldo, but doubt he'd be much value these days. He was amost at sunday league level when he returned to Brazil, so might not be the player we remember.

I also have a soft spot for him personally, he gave absolutely everything for the club and you can't fault that, but he was simply not up to the standard required, ever. That was 5 years ago, the a league has improved significantly since then. No way he could his a spot now

you must be pissed..... I had been away for a long time and when i got back for a visit i went to see Roar play.   Even though Charlie miller seemed past it you could see a glimmer of his former self buried deep below years of overlaid mischief but Reinaldo was terrible.. It was only one game but he missed some opportunities that would have been harder to miss than score....  when he was subbed late in the game and he came back to the bunning chairs in front of the crowd some smart wit called out "be careful sitting down..... you'll miss that too"  he averaged only a goal every 4 games in a league that was much less developed than it is today. thanks but no thanks

Watching the U'17 WC for the Joey's game vs Mexico, and former Goalkeeping coach Fernando Vaz Alves is their on the bench as the Goalkeeping coach for them. Arguably a step up from the Roar. Last I heard he was with the AIS

After viewing the twitter account for the dude whose scarf was photoshopped, I came across the tidbit that Issey Nakajima Farran is now with Terengganu, a Malaysian Super League team, and also played in the recent two games against Belize for the Canadian national team.
Sport: Exciting only when you are sitting down

Wonder how he manages the language issue, particularly with the officials - maybe he has picked up the Thai language.

Ha ! Fulltilt...Not sure Smithy is a big talker anyway. Its amazing on a football field how much you can convey without words. Remember some of those Scots we played with in the late 70's ?
I couldn't understand what they were saying half the time but they did manage to get their message across in no uncertain terms. ;)

Resurrected !!!

Andrija Kaluderovic returned to his Serbian club first (Rad Beograd) before being snapped up by Lithuanian team Zalgris Vilnius who play in the (and I kid you not) A Lyga. He's repaid them by winning the Golden Boot with 17 goals (12 in the regular season, 5 in their Championship Round) to help his club secure the 2016 title and a spot in the 2017-18 UEFA Champions League qualifiers

So Mitch Nichols has been busted for Cocaine Possession.

THE USE of illegal drugs has hit football?s A-league competition with Western Sydney Wanderers star and former Socceroo Mitch Nichols charged with possession of cocaine at a Sydney nightclub.

Nichols, 28, was allegedly at Casablanca nightclub in Double Bay in the early hours of last Saturday when police conducted a random drug sweep.

Just before 12.30am police located three small clear resealable plastic bags containing about 1.1 grams of a white powder which they believed to be cocaine.

Police confiscated the drugs and issued Nichols with a field court attendance notice for possess prohibited drug. He is due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Friday 9 June.

Nichols was told last week that his contract at Western Sydney would not be renewed for next season, and the midfielder is believed to want to try his luck in the European leagues.

However any offence would still be within the jurisdiction of Football Federation Australia once his contract expires at the end of this month. All of the Western Sydney players are currently on leave, including those who are being released.

Under FFA?s Code of Conduct, that applies to all registered players, there is a catch-all ?bringing the game into disrepute? charge, under which players can be suspended immediately at the discretion of the governing body.

The Code specifically notes that it ?continues to apply to a member even after that member?s association, registration, employment or engagement has ended, if that member breached this code while a current member.?

In effect he could be suspended even without having a contract, though the Code also notes that a player must be given due notice of any potential charge and the right to a fair hearing.

Nichols was released after a disappointing season in which Western Sydney only just made the finals, and were eliminated at the first hurdle. He won two A-League titles with Brisbane Roar and has played five times for his country, though not since Ange Postecoglou ? his former boss at Brisbane ? took charge.

Western Sydney and FFA have been approached for comment.

Since its formation in 2005 the A-League has largely escaped major drugs incidents, with only one player failing a test ? then-Mariners utility Troy Hearfield, who later served a ban of 15 months after traces of amphetamines were found in his system during a random drugs test conducted by WADA.

Hearfield left the Mariners by mutual consent and never resumed his professional career.
