I read that Rhys Williams may be available in the transfer window.
I assume it is fallout from the bust up at Perth.
With Jade North being 35 should we be looking to the future?
Jado is outstanding but can't last forever.

No thanks.. No doubt Rhys is quality but he's had a very injury prone career so far.

he'd be a good squaddie in that case... use him for games here and there and maybe not pay too much over for that....

He might stay injury free, but for the above average risk of serious reinjury, the inflated money he would want and his probable 'I almost made it in the epl but my body failed me now I'm back with you bums' melodrama he's probably worth passing on.

SST posted on Twitter that we are looking at Roy O'Donovan for next season. Would make sense with Jamie heading off elsewhere. Think he would do well.

Obviously they post a bunch of crap so probably isn't accurate.

Mariners will want to keep him and I can't see that we could offer a better deal than them. There will be other cashed up clubs ahead of us, should he make a move.
I actually think Paul Okon is building a good team at Mariners and they will want O'Donovan to stay.
O'Donovan was at Coventry as was JA, but a decade later so it is hard to see a personal connection. And JA's future is not exactly secure either.
So I would think it is indeed a bunch of crap.

Sydney FC have re-signed Ninkovic. I am sure Johnny Aloisi will make an equally impressive signing.

It's be interesting to see a list of Sydney players coming off contract. Does Arnie have most of the quality locked in already? I know Ibini is only on loan from Club Brugge but no doubt he'd love to keep him onboard.

From their starting XI:

Vuka: Already signed and wants and extension/to finish his career there
Zullo: Another year on his contract
Buijs: Unknown
Wilkinson: Another year on his contract
Grant: Another two years on his contract
O'Neill: Another year on his contract
Brillante: Another two years on his contract
Brosque: Uncontracted, but rumoured to be willing to take whatever is left of the cap once other players are re-signed so he can stay
Ninkovic: New marquee contract
Bobo: Rumoured to be getting the other marquee spot with a one year extension
Holosko: Rumoured to be going in under the cap (Sydney FC fans also spouting that he offered his marquee spot so they could keep Ninkovic, similar to the Broich/Bes situation at Roar)

As for their bench, Ibini will likely go back to Belgium, Carney will stay on, Redmaybe will stay on, Milos Dimitrievic is rumoured to sign on again, Matt Simon won't go anywhere.

If the can find a replacement for Ibini and re-sign Buijs or find a similar CB, they will be pretty much the same side again next season.

It must be a strange feeling having your best players want to stay at the club...

I think that is where money plays a big role. Something the Roar don't seem to have. Correct me if I'm wrong,

I heard Arnold talking about the stuff they do to make the players happy... Having a Chef that cooks for them... Good facilities. We don't have any of that (as far as I know).

Good update...those perks are pretty amazing. I'm glad they'll have a strong acl team and hal team again. We need teams to set high benchmarks. If Arnold is to be the future socceroos coach it's good to have him test himself in the acl.

It pays to remember that Sydney finished 7th in the 2015/16 season and Adelaide first. It just goes to show that there are no perfect path to continued glory in the A-League and all clubs with some smart moves/recruitments etc can most definitely feature at the business end.

Some of these comments show why its important to have continuity in the management side, so you can build a solid team over the years with relationships building..

We have signed in the past players to 5 and 3 year contracts and then sacked the manager... the new guy can then only work with what he has and again have to rebuild over time.

Sydney only had one player from the last GF they lost to Melb, and have rebuilt steadily..

Agreed but funnily enough with that all said and done, the chaos in almost every off season, constantly losing players we somehow have the best record in making the finals (7 consecutive seasons, 9 times in the past 10 seasons).

2007-08 4th (Semi Finals)
2008-09 3rd (Semi Finals)
2009-10 9th (DNP)
2010-11 1st (Champions)
2011-12 2nd (Champions)
2012-13 5th (Semi Final)
2013-14 1st (Champions)
2014-15 6th (Eliminated in 1st round of Finals)
2015-16 3rd (Semi Finals)
2016-17 3rd (Semi Finals)
