This gane has kinda crept up on us.

Ange has been pretty confident in his recent interviews but I do have a few nerves as Iraq are a solid team and can definitely play.

I've got no idea as to what our starting lineup will look like. Anyone??

My idea:
                                        Mathew Ryan

Joshua Risdon    Trent Sainsbury     Matthew Spiranovic     Brad Smith

                                     Mile Jedinak

                      Aaron Mooy           Mark Milligan

   Robbie Kruse                                           Mathew Leckie

                                 Tomi Juric

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Pretty handy players left out too (that are in the squad)!
Nathan Burns, Tim Cahill, Milos Degenek, Adam Federici, Alex Gersbach, Apostolos Giannou, Christopher Ikonomidis, Jackson Irvine, Mitchell Langerak, Massimo Luongo, Ryan McGowan, Tomas Rogic, Bailey Wright

Hmm... Rogic instead of Milligan, with Mooy playing deep to do the running that the old carthorse Jedinak can't do - which is all of it - and Degenek at RB.

There is simply no way Rogic, the most inform and most talented player in our squad, will start on the bench.  And Degenek did better at RB than either Risdon, who is out of season, and McGowan.

Is it just me or anyone else nervous about this qualification?  All the teams in our group can play and all are really tough away trips.

Ange will have the boys fired up but yeah I'ma bit nervous too.. Very important to win home games and then try and go and jag away wins/draws.

every team on its day can scare everybody else.... there are no easy teams this round, but this is where the hard work pays off.....

side note: does anyone else think that Japan might be ripe for picking this time??? not a great Asian Cup, so are they wavering???

I agree on Japan - despite a plethora of young talent, recent showings suggest the men's and women's teams are both going through somewhat of a transition. There'll be thereabouts though. I wouldn't expect a capitulation, but I think we could fancy ourselves more than in the past perhaps.

In general though, tough group and we'll have to be spot on to get max points from all home games at least. I have faith that Ange can get that out of this squad, I reckon we're in good shape across the park. As long as Leckie and Juric remember to bring their scoring boots and leaving the pitching wedges at home, we'll be right.

Makes the next three matches really massive if we can get a win in each.

What a horrible performance from the Roos.  Jedinak... how does this bipolar elephant of a player keep being selected?  How many times does he have to turn over the ball to be dropped?

Ah well, in qualifying it's the result that matters above all else.

Performance was only good in the last 20 minutes or so.

And yes, Jedinak seems past his use by date.

Why can't Leckie score?

You guys do realise that half these guys came to camp late ..and basically most are either out of season or only just begun ?  They don't have the luxury of training together each week and forming combinations  etc . International or rep football is always a case of a few rusty early games with the team getting better as they play together more (especially in tournaments) ....Italy in nearly every World Cup ????
They played well enough to win and in early stages of a tournament that is all that is required....in fact that is all that is required at any stage.

I was impressed with Irvine when he came on ...very tidy. I like the look of our players and think they will combine well with a little more game time .
Your life is an occasion...rise to it.

Peter Crouch " hmmmm  ??............a virgin ? "

Agree on Irvine, MM.  I was impressed too. He looked the goods and may well replace Jedinak in the not too distant future.

... Irvine should replace Jedinak because he has better facial/head hair.
